A day in the life of… @Leander van Veen

Today, it was Leander’s turn to take us through a day as a consultant at IT Partner. Spoiler: terminals don’t stop at 5 PM, so neither do we. 😊

06:45 AM
Wake-up call. Fed the cats and dog, made breakfast for my little girl and myself, walked Buddy, and grabbed coffee for the road.

07:50 AM
Left for Associated Terminal Operators in Antwerp, Belgium, where the terminal is implementing CENTER TOS. Today’s focus: vessel planning training with the TOS team. I arrived early enough to help Nish from @Loadmaster.ai think through a development point before the session started.

10:00 AM
Vessel planning training in Masterplan. A useful bonus: the session also served as a check to confirm that our settings were configured correctly. The training led to some valuable discussions with the team.

02:00 PM
Back in the car, heading to @Matrans Rotterdam Terminal. Familiar ground for me, after years of working on the container team there. Familiar people, familiar operations. Traffic, of course, but I still arrived on time to support the RoRo operation starting at 05:00 PM. MRT is currently in the middle of the go-live for our new RoRo module, with cassette, MAFI, and trailer movements now registered and directed through the new system.

A few hours later, I reviewed the day with Eymen, MRT’s project manager for the RoRo project: what went well, what needed attention, and how we could help. A go-live comes down to one thing: keeping the terminal running while minimizing disruption for the customer. Aside from a few minor issues, temporary workarounds, and configuration tweaks, the operation stayed on track.

09:00 PM
Discharge complete and loading started. With fewer technical process points from there, I called it a day and headed home. Tomorrow morning, a new vessel arrives, and I’ll be back to help.

Long day? Absolutely. But it flew by. And at IT Partner, that’s part of the job: terminals don’t stop at 05:00 PM. ⏰
