Moderation without Migration: How IT Partner is future-proofing terminal operations with Thinkwise

At IT Partner, we recognize that the demands on software for terminals and logistics operations are evolving faster than ever. Mobile workflows are now standard, real-time API traffic is surging, and cloud requirements are becoming increasingly strict. Yet, many vendors still rely on outdated technologies, and finding specialized developers is a real challenge. For many organizations, modernization isn’t just an option – it’s essential for maintaining operational agility.

As a trusted provider of software for international container terminals, we’ve witnessed these changes firsthand. Our Center Suite has been the backbone of terminal operations for clients worldwide for many years. In recent years, we’ve modernized several modules using the Thinkwise Platform[1], delivering a more modern user experience, enabling faster release cycles, and improving API integrations. However, we recognized the need for a broader, more structural modernization of our suite. With Thinkwise now established as our strategic platform, we are accelerating the systematic modernization of the entire suite.

From custom software to a product-driven suite

Since the 1990s, we have been developing software for terminals and cargo companies across Europe, the Caribbean, Suriname, and the Middle East. As legacy technology limitations grew, we realized constant platform changes forced us to restart development repeatedly. This led us to unify our capabilities into a single product-driven suite: Center. To sustain this model long-term, a technological foundation was needed that could evolve with the market and support frequent updates.

Focus on functionality and domain expertise

We want to focus on functionality and domain expertise, not on chasing every technological change. What started as a technical component is now becoming our strategic platform for nearly the entire Center Suite. Thinkwise enables us to modernize modules in a planned, predictable way. Without disruptive migration projects, data conversions, or constant struggles with outdated technology. The technology evolves in the background, while our clients benefit from enhanced functionality.

Next step: modernizing the Terminal Operating System (TOS)

Our TOS is the largest and most critical core product within the Center Suite. It supports container flows, yard planning, truck gates, document control, inspections, and other primary terminal processes. Our goal is for clients to feel that their software is improving, not that they’re switching to a new platform. By converting module by module, everything stays familiar while becoming more modern. Clients are already eager for what comes next. We now have a clear view of which logic can be reused and where acceleration is possible. This keeps the modernization of TOS manageable and predictable.

Impact for clients: modernization without migration

Our modernization strategy is all about continuous improvement, not disruptive migration projects. Clients can expect:

  • Incremental modernization, with modules converted one by one into the Thinkwise environment
  • Retention of the existing database and data model, without conversions
  • Frequent, smaller releases instead of major upgrade projects
  • A more modern user experience, already receiving positive feedback
  • A move to web (and if desired, cloud), without requiring clients to change their processes

Looking ahead: continuous development as the standard

With our renewed collaboration with Thinkwise, modernization is no longer a one-off project. It has become an ongoing part of our Center strategy. Components currently running in specialized tooling will remain where functionally appropriate, while other modules will be gradually incorporated into the Thinkwise environment.

For terminals, cargo companies and warehouses, this means a platform that grows with their operations: predictable, manageable and future-proof, without the need to purchase a new system every few years.
